Trade Facilitation Office opens in Mombasa
Traders clearing their cargo through the Port of Mombasa using the Kenya TradeNet System can now access support services from trade facilitation office in Mombasa set up by KenTrade with the support of the development partner the Investment Climate Facility for Africa (ICF). The office was commissioned by KenTrade Chairman Gen.Joseph Kibwana (Ret) who represented the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Mr. Henry Rotich at a ceremony attended by key representatives of the Port Community, KenTrade and ICF CEO Mr. William Asiko.
The significance of opening an office in Mombasa lies in the fact that 90 per cent of KenTrade’s activities are dependent on the Port of Mombasa and KenTrade traces its origin to the Mombasa Port Community. Importantly, KenTrade is among the state agencies that committed to providing efficient service delivery by signing the Mombasa Port Community Charter in the presence of His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta in June 2014. Over 20 state agencies and other stakeholders are able to submit process, make payments and approve cargo clearance documents electronically through the Single Window.
