Change Strategy

The Agency adopts to changes through its Strategic Plan. The KenTrade 4th Strategic Plan (2023/24-2027/28) is the means in which the Agency plans to deliver the future of Trade Facilitation. The tagline for the Strategy is ‘Trade Made Simple’

It is also the Change Strategy for Kenya Trade Network Agency (KenTrade) that describes the future state desired by stakeholders impacted by trade facilitation initiatives.

From a continuous approach to change, the ‘Trade Made Simple’ approach is the fourth strategy in a series of implementation of changes targeting the trade facilitation environment. It consolidates gains from previous strategies implemented by the Agency since its formation in the year 2010.

The Corporate Vision for the Agency is a ‘A global leader in Trade Facilitation’. The implementation of initiatives under ‘Trade Made Simple’ are contained under Five Key Result Areas (KRAs) which propose several changes in organisational elements such as existing processes, systems, tools, job roles, critical behaviours, mindset/attitudes/beliefs, reporting structures, performance reviews, compensation and location, and aligning them to Trade Made Simple as a target operating model. The changes will be experienced as follows:

  1. Key Result Area 1: Trade environment and ease of doing business

The key destabilizing factors of the existing organisational elements is the intended change of import and export processes of various PGAs through simplification -BPR and bringing them on board the NESWS. Most of the processes are owned by PGAs, if BPR is involved likely impact on structure will be experienced. The alternative is to resist structural change and automate processes without simplification which will undermine the objectives of Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) that commits countries to establish Single Windows in line with UNCTAD Recommendation Number 33 (Provide a link)

  1. Key Result Area 2: Solutions Development and Management

The key destabilizing factors of the existing organisational elements is the intended change of technology- the NESWS system from the current 2nd Generation NESWS to a Proposed 3rd Generation NESWS. Technological upgrades are also expected for Enterprise Resource Management (ERP) System, Customer Relationship Management Solution (CRM). The three solutions are expected to perform better, and address technology obsolescence.  Other systems being brought on Board include the Maritime Single Window System (MSWS). Processes being automated after Simplification include KCAA System Integration with NESWS, KWS System and NESWS integration.
